Project: Twirp, a Miniature Biped

One robotics challenge that is widely regarded as one of the more difficult is building a biped, or two-legged walker. Balance and traction are two of the biggest obstacles to overcome in trying to get a robot to walk. There are quite a few examples of LEGO biped robots in books and on the web. Kevin Clague, author of the superlative tool, LPub, has quite an assortment posted on his web site. James Loewen is another who has designed several biped walkers. One of James' creations shows how fun these types of robots can be is a miniature biped. It's called Twirp and we've posted building instructions here.

To build Twirp you will need the following parts:

Follow these instructions to build your very own Twirp.

After you're done building Twirp you may want to check out Lugnet's collection of biped walkers.
